What breaks you?

18 Dec

Fanny spoke in the previous blog-post about brokenness and restoration of humanity. Now, that is real stuff, and I’ll tell you why.

This evening I have spent in the Children’s Intensive Care Unit at King’s College Hospital singing some Christmas carols. And if there is nothing else that breaks your heart, well, this one does.  Most of the children were going to spend their Christmas in the ward, and some of them are going to spend their lasts days there too.

One of the carols we sang was  “Away in a manger”. Just read through the last few lines and see what great hope and comfort God brings to the most difficult situations,

Be near me, Lord Jesus,

I ask Thee to stay

Close by me forever

And love me I pray

Bless all the dear children

In Thy tender care

And take us to heaven

To live with thee there

The little smiles on the children’s faces as we finally sang Jingle Bells together reassured me that Jesus can bring hope to the most hopeless situations.

However broke we might be.
